Guidance and Counselling

At AREL College, Psychological Counselling and Guidance is a structured and systematic process that helps students become individuals who know themselves, are at peace with themselves, build positive relationships, recognize their problems and difficulties, and make efforts to solve them. It also supports students in directing their lives by considering their interests and abilities, taking responsibility, and becoming highly motivated individuals. In this direction, the Psychological Counselling and Guidance Unit follows a developmental and preventive guidance approach. With its expert staff, it carries out studies for students, parents, and teachers by taking into account students’ needs and age characteristics.
Student Recognition and Development Monitoring
These are systematic studies in which we evaluate our students’ academic, emotional, and social development in a holistic way, support their strengths, and monitor areas that need improvement. In this process, students are supported to understand themselves and discover their interests and abilities.
School Adaptation and Transition Process
Individual and group activities are carried out to help students who are new to high school adapt to the academic and social environment in a healthy way. In this program, students receive guidance on school rules, classroom dynamics, time management, effective study habits, and social relationships. The program aims to help students understand themselves, gain confidence in a safe learning environment, and build healthy relationships with their peers.
Individual Psychological Counselling
Individual meetings are held to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development. In these sessions, students’ strengths, areas for improvement, and goals are identified. When needed, students receive one-on-one counselling support on topics such as academic planning, exam anxiety, motivation, social relationships, self-awareness, and emotional management. Students are guided in a safe environment where they can express themselves freely and work toward their personal goals.
Classroom Guidance Activities
These are classroom-based guidance studies designed according to each grade level’s developmental needs. They aim to increase students’ self-awareness and develop goal setting and decision-making skills. Students gain awareness in areas such as problem-solving, effective communication, time management, and life skills through interactive activities. Group work, discussions, and interactive tasks also strengthen social skills and promote cooperation in the classroom.
Group Activities
Structured group studies are carried out to improve students’ exam anxiety, academic motivation, effective study habits, time management, and communication skills.
Academic Process and Success Monitoring
Individual and group support activities are carried out so that students can set academic goals, follow these goals, and manage their learning process effectively.
Field Selection Studies
The PDR Unit at AREL College supports Grade 10 students in making conscious and suitable field choices. In this process, interest and ability inventories, individual interviews, and information sessions are conducted. Students learn about different academic fields and choose the one that best fits them. The aim is to help students build their future on a strong foundation through the right field selection.
Seminars and Talks
Seminars and talks are organized throughout the year in different areas to support students’ academic, career, and personal development.
Social Responsibility and Values Activities
Various social responsibility projects are carried out to help students develop social awareness, empathy, and responsibility.

Alumni Career Days
AREL graduates are invited back to school by the Guidance and Counselling Unit and meet with current students. They share their career journeys, the importance of choosing the right university and department, exam preparation experiences, and real workplace experiences. These events help students learn about professions and make informed career choices.

Student Bulletins
Student bulletins are informative guides prepared to support academic success, career planning, and psycho-social development. They include topics such as study techniques, exam processes, motivation, time management, goal setting, and emotional well-being. These publications help students manage their learning process more consciously and develop awareness in their personal growth.

AREL Round Table Meetings
Round Table Meetings are held for Grade 11 and 12 students to evaluate their academic and exam preparation processes in a holistic way. Students, parents, guidance counsellors, subject teachers, and the Psychological Counselling and Guidance Unit all participate in these meetings.
In these meetings, students’ academic performance, exam preparation process, study habits, motivation, and overall development are discussed in detail. At the end of the meeting, shared goals and clear action plans are created based on students’ needs. This structured cooperation model aims to strengthen communication between student, school, and parents and help students reach their full potential
Counselling System – Parent Information
Within the counselling system, parents are regularly informed about their children’s academic and social development. The assigned advisor teacher contacts parents at least once a month by phone or online meeting. In addition, at least two face-to-face meetings are held during the academic year to share detailed information about students’ studies, exam results, motivation, and overall progress. This strengthens school–parent cooperation and supports students’ needs effectively.
Test and Inventory Reports
Throughout the academic year, test and inventory results applied to students are reported individually and shared with parents at least three times a year through the K12 platform.
Parent Information Brochures
These brochures are prepared for mid-term breaks, semester breaks, and summer holidays. They provide parents with suggestions to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development. Prepared by the Psychological Counselling and Guidance Unit, these materials aim to guide families in making holiday periods productive and balanced.
